Elizabeth Day has been named Charlestown’s Local Woman of the Year in recognition of her outstanding volunteer work for local sport.
Elizabeth, known as Liz, has been involved with Central Newcastle Rugby League Football Club for several years. Liz’s official roles are Secretary, Sponsor Liaison, Gear Steward, and Manager to the Ladies League Tag team, while her unofficial commitments to the Club go much deeper.
Liz regularly steps outside of her official roles to help in any way she can. Liz is involved in organising community outreach events, such as last year’s Outdoor Movie Night for Christmas.
“The Local Woman of the Year awards are an opportunity to highlight the achievements of women from Charlestown”, Member for Charlestown and Minister for Women, Jodie Harrison, said.
“Liz’s service to the community, to Central Rugby League Football Club, and the Ladies League Tag team, proves that her dedication and commitment is second to none."
"I have experienced and witnessed Liz and her multiple volunteer hats in action many, many times over the last few years, and am continually impressed by her passion and desire to improve this already amazing community of a club. Liz is always stepping in and stepping up to make sure every job is done. The support and energy of Liz has been intrinsic to the expansion of the women’s league at Charlestown.”
“I am thrilled to be able to recognise her contribution as Charlestown’s Local Woman of the Year.”
“Liz truly embodies the club motto, For the Family—she has given her time, energy, and heart to Central Newcastle Rugby League Football Club in so many ways. Her dedication to the club and the wider community is inspiring, and this recognition is so well deserved.”
“Community Clubs can’t run without volunteers, and I know many people are “time poor” these days, but it is an extremely gratifying thing to do. We are all like a “family” at Central, and I would love to invite anyone who is looking for something to fill their days, likes to be involved in sports, and wants to have a bit of fun as well, to come along and join us!!,” Ms Day said.
