2025 Primary School Mathematics Competition

18 November 2025

Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)—I'd like to recognise the outstanding achievements of local students who took part in the 2025 Newcastle Permanent Primary School Mathematics Competition. This year's event drew almost 17,000 participants from more than 350 schools across regional NSW, and it was wonderful to see students from the Charlestown and surrounding Lake Macquarie area perform so strongly. In the Year 6 division, New Lambton South Public School's Ahmed Sajjad achieved first place, an exceptional result. New Lambton Public School's Aayush Gangadharan also excelled, placing third. In the Year 5 division, St Paul's Primary School student Eden Watts secured second place and demonstrated impressive talent. Students from across our community also received District Awards. In Year 5, congratulations go to Hesandu Senanayake from New Lambton South Public School, Pavan Kudagamage from New Lambton Public School and Liam Arthur from Charlestown South Public School. In Year 6, recognition goes to Max Dorain and Yousaf Badar Jamal from New Lambton South Public School, along with Alois Madden from St Mary's Primary School, Warners Bay. I congratulate all students on their hard work and enthusiasm, and I thank their teachers and families for the support that helped them reach these achievements.
