Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)—Sport has a remarkable way of bringing people together, and few events demonstrate this more powerfully than the Invictus Games. Founded by Prince Harry in 2014, the Games celebrate the resilience, determination and strength of wounded, injured and sick service personnel from around the world. Among those proudly representing our community is Eleebana athlete Alex Hale, a paraplegic athlete and former lieutenant commander in the Navy. Alex recently had the unique honour of joining Prince Harry and Meghan aboard a boat on Sydney Harbour during the Sydney leg of their Australian tour, after being invited by Invictus Australia alongside five other Invictus alumni and their families. Alex also competed in the 2025 Invictus Games in indoor rowing, wheelchair basketball and the biathlon, showcasing incredible perseverance, discipline and sportsmanship on the international stage. His achievements are a testament not only to his athletic ability, but also to his courage and commitment in the face of adversity. Alex's story is one that inspires many across the Lake Macquarie and Newcastle communities, and we are incredibly proud to see a local athlete representing both his country and community with such distinction.
