Alyssa Wharton

12 November 2025

Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)—I would like to recognise and congratulate Adamstown's Alyssa Wharton, who was recently named the Hunter Young Volunteer of the Year. Alyssa gives so much of her time to supporting grassroots cricket in our region. She serves as both the Cricket Blast Coordinator and Women's Coordinator for the Newcastle City and Eastern Districts Cricket Club, while also umpiring, coaching, and mentoring young players. Her passion for the game and commitment to inclusion have helped create an encouraging environment where players of all ages and abilities can grow their confidence and skills. In addition to her club roles, Alyssa contributes to the Newcastle District Cricket Association by helping organise cricket carnivals that bring together families and players from across the region. These events provide not only opportunities for competition, but also moments of community connection and joy. Alyssa's dedication, leadership and generosity are a true credit to her community and to the sport she loves. I congratulate her once again on being named the Hunter Young Volunteer of the Year and thank her for everything she does to inspire others.
