Cathy Zontos

Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)—I would like to acknowledge the dedication of Cathy Zontos, a local and passionate advocate for safety, inclusion and equality in women's sport. As a trainer and sports injury therapist, Cathy has long supported female athletes and has been a strong voice for improving player protection and wellbeing. At the recent NRLW Magic Round, Cathy spoke with players, parents and community members about the importance of safety and longevity in contact sports. She raised awareness of the serious risk of breast trauma and soft tissue damage that many female athletes face due to protective gear being designed primarily for the male body. Determined to create change, Cathy founded Footy Girls, the first Australian brand focused on creating protective sportswear specifically for girls and women in contact codes. She developed a custom vest with padding placed where it is most needed, providing protection without compromising comfort or performance. Cathy's work is about more than just gear. It is about ensuring that no girl or woman feels they have to step away from sport because they are not properly supported. Her commitment is helping build a stronger, safer and more inclusive future for female athletes.
