Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)—After forty-three years of on-the-ground service to the State Emergency Service, Charlestown electorate local Christine Speer has been awarded the Emergency Services Medal in the 2025 Australia Day Honours. I cannot think of a more deserving recipient. Over the course of many years, Christine has been an eye-witness to the worst nature can throw at our communities and she's always been there for those in need. In the 2007 tempest which will always be remembered as the "Pasha Bulker storm", she was there. During the 2015 east coast low, she was there. During the horrific bushfire season of 2019‑2020, she was there. And when horrendous flooding hit Lismore in 2022, she was there. I have had many occasions to recognise Christine in this place in the past, and I am so proud to once again recognise her as an extraordinary member of the Charlestown community. Congratulations, Christine, on this well-earned honour, and thank you for everything you and the men and women who serve with you in the SES do for communities in the Charlestown electorate and across the state.
