Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)—Our community has produced many talented athletes who have gone on to achieve success on the national and international stage, and Connor Metcalfe is a shining example of the sporting talent our region continues to foster. Born and raised in Newcastle, Connor began his football journey playing junior football with South Cardiff Community Football Club. Like many young players across our region, he dreamed of one day representing the Newcastle Jets. While his pathway ultimately took him elsewhere, Connor's determination saw him progress through Melbourne City's development system before taking his talents overseas. Connor has gone on to build an impressive professional career in Germany, playing for Bundesliga club FC St. Pauli. His success at the highest levels of international football is a testament to the hard work and commitment he has shown throughout his career. In 2021, Connor achieved another significant milestone when he made his debut for the Australian national team, the Socceroos. Now, at 26 years of age, the proud Novocastrian is preparing to represent Australia at the FIFA World Cup in North America. I congratulate Connor on his remarkable achievements and wish him and the Socceroos every success in the upcoming World Cup tournament.
