HNELHD Jersey Day Cup

17 September 2025

Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)—Recently, I had the opportunity to attend the Hunter New England Local Health District Jersey Day Cup, a fantastic new round-robin touch football competition that brought together frontline health workers and emergency services. The event was held at Hunter Barnett Field in Windale and featured six teams, including NSW Ambulance's Singleton Special Ops, Newcastle Police, Newcastle Police Detectives, Calvary Mater Hospital, John Hunter Hospital and DonateLife NSW. Each side swapped their uniforms for sporting jerseys, competing with plenty of energy, good spirit and friendly rivalry. While the matches were played in great fun, the purpose of the Jersey Day Cup was to raise awareness for organ and tissue donation. It was inspiring to see frontline workers from across our region not only showcase teamwork on the field but also spark conversations that could one day save lives. This year marks the 10th anniversary of Jersey Day, which began as a tribute to 13-year-old Nathan Gremmo. The launch of the Jersey Day Cup has added a new and fitting chapter to that legacy. Congratulations to everyone involved in making the first-ever event such a great success.
