Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)-It cannot often be said that a year 4 student has thought about anything for years, but one remarkable young man from Eleebana Public School, Knox Ruprecht, has been talking about growing out his hair and cutting it off for charity since he was in year 2. On Friday 7 March he followed through. Inspired by the experiences of a close family member, Knox said goodbye to his long locks in order to raise money for diabetes research through the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Knox had a big audience for the event. His fellow students, teachers and members of his family were there to celebrate the momentous occasion—and what an occasion it was. His shoulder-length curls were divided into hanks, with some of his mates getting in on the big chop as well. Knox surpassed his goal of raising $2,000 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, but he went even further. His hair was donated to Wigs4Kids to help young people who lose their hair due to illness. Congratulations, Knox! What an inspiring young man.
