Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)—I would like to sincerely thank the Lake Macquarie SES Unit for their dedication, bravery and tireless efforts during the recent storms. From Thursday 15 May, the unit received an extraordinary 736 requests for assistance, with members spending more than 3,300 hours responding to callouts and supporting our community during a time of urgent need. Their coordinated efforts, professionalism and commitment ensured help was delivered where it was needed most. Special thanks go to Cluster Commander Chris Speer for his leadership throughout the response, and to every SES member who worked through difficult conditions to keep others safe. I would also like to acknowledge the many local volunteers who gave their time to fill sandbags. Your contribution allowed SES members to remain in the field and continue their vital work without interruption. The response to these storms has once again shown the strength of our community and the importance of volunteer emergency services like the SES. We are incredibly grateful for the dedication and service of the Lake Macquarie SES, and for the community spirit that continues to shine through in challenging times.
