Layla Kellar Bridgart

19 March 2026

Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)—I would like to recognise Layla Kellar Bridgart, a talented young athlete from Eleebana who recently led the New South Wales Under-17 Girls Flag Football team to victory at the American Football Australia Flag Football National Championships. Layla proudly captained the NSW side during the two-day national competition held in Sydney, where the team delivered an impressive performance to defeat Queensland 33–6 in the grand final, securing the national title. This achievement builds on Layla's leadership last year when she also captained the NSW team in the inaugural championship, where they finished as runners-up. Layla's commitment, teamwork and leadership have been central to the team's success. As captain, she has demonstrated the determination and sportsmanship that make her a wonderful role model for young athletes across our region. Flag football continues to grow rapidly around the world and is set to make its Olympic debut at the 2028 Games in Los Angeles. With her talent and dedication to the sport, Layla represents the exciting future of this emerging game. I congratulate Layla on this outstanding accomplishment and wish her every success in her future sporting career.
