Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)—I would like to sincerely thank the Newcastle SES Unit for their dedication, bravery and tireless efforts during the recent storms. Beginning on Thursday 15 May, the unit responded to 384 requests for assistance across the City of Newcastle. In difficult and often unpredictable conditions, volunteers supported residents facing flooding, fallen trees, and damage to homes and infrastructure. Their work was vital in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our community during this challenging time. The Newcastle SES has long been a trusted and respected presence in our region. Time and time again, they show up when it matters most. Whether they are clearing debris, securing properties, or providing reassurance to distressed residents, their calm and capable approach is deeply appreciated. These volunteers give up their time to help others, often stepping in during the most difficult moments. They bring not only practical skills and training, but also empathy, steadiness and a deep sense of community spirit. Their presence provides reassurance, their actions make a real difference, and their contribution is something we should never take for granted. To every member of the Newcastle SES Unit—thank you. Your commitment, care and service do not go unnoticed.
