NSW Mines Rescue

12 November 2025

Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)—Last Friday night I attended the NSW Mines Rescue brigade's presentation following their day of competition for mines rescue activities. The exercises during the day reflected real-life possibilities of rescue and recovery in underground mines, particularly in the Hunter region. They brought together a number of mining companies and workers from those companies who are responsible for rescues. I particularly pay tribute to Tony Sutcliffe, who achieved 40 years of service with Mines Rescue on the night. I also recognise the runners-up of the competition, the yellow team, who came from multiple mines, and the winners, the orange team. I congratulate everyone who participated and thank them for their work.
