PCYC Lake Macquarie Basketball

04 February 2026

Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)—Jared Hickson and Jarvis Watson are taking their talents to the world stage following their selection to represent PCYC Lake Macquarie as part of an Indigenous All Stars basketball squad for a tour of the United States. After strong performances at the 2025 PCYC Nations of Origin tournament, Jared and Jarvis were among 20 young athletes identified from across New South Wales. Following a further trial process, the squad was narrowed to just ten players, with both athletes earning selection through their skill, discipline, teamwork and commitment to the game. The tour will see the team spend close to 21 days in the United States. It is the first time an all-First Nations basketball side from Australia has competed in the United States. Jared and Jarvis' selection is a testament not only to their talent, but also to the supportive environment fostered through PCYC Lake Macquarie, which continues to provide young people with opportunities to grow both on and off the court. They represent outstanding local talent from our region, and I wish them every success as they embark on this incredible journey. Congratulations to both Jared and Jarvis on this well-deserved achievement.
