Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)—I would like to recognise Professor Aaron Sverdlov, who was recently named Staff Member of the Year for John Hunter Hospital at the Hunter New England Local Health District Excellence Awards 2025. These awards are an important opportunity to pause and acknowledge the outstanding contributions made each day by those delivering world-class care across our district. Professor Sverdlov is a cardiologist and clinician-scientist with an exceptional record of achievement, spanning from basic science through to clinical research. His work covers a broad range of areas including heart failure and cardio‑oncology, with the ultimate goal of improving care and outcomes for patients with heart disease. In 2017, he was appointed Associate Professor and Director of Heart Failure at the University of Newcastle. He also serves as a cardiologist at John Hunter Hospital and Clinical Lead of Heart Failure Services for the Hunter New England Local Health District. In December 2022, he was promoted to Professor at the University of Newcastle. Professor Sverdlov's research continues to advance the prevention, early detection and treatment of heart disease. His leadership and dedication are an inspiration to colleagues, patients and the wider community. Congratulations on this well-deserved honour.
