19 November 2025

Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)—I congratulate Calvary Mater Newcastle's Professor Geoff Isbister, director of Clinical Toxicology, who has been named among the world's top 2 per cent of scientists for 2025 by Stanford University. The prestigious global ranking, published inPLOS Biology, recognises researchers whose work has had significant international impact. Professor Isbister was recognised in the field of toxicology, reflecting his extraordinary contribution to improving the understanding and treatment of poisoning and envenoming. Professor Isbister has published more than 300 research papers and leads major national studies, including the Australian Snakebite Project and the Australian Toxicology Monitoring Study. His work has reshaped clinical practice, challenged long-held assumptions about antivenoms and antidotes, and improved care for patients across Australia. In 2019 he was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia for his service to medical toxicology. I congratulate him on his achievements.
