Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)—It was a night of celebration as the Hunter sporting community gathered to honour five outstanding athletes at the 2025 Hunter Region Sporting Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, held at McDonald Jones Stadium on Wednesday, 20 August. Among the inductees was Scott Westcott, whose commitment to sport and the Hunter community has left a lasting impression. Since beginning his teaching career in 1998, Scott has managed to balance life as an educator with success as an elite athlete. He has proudly represented Australia at the 1998 Chiba International Relay, achieved a fourth-place finish in the 2006 Commonwealth Games Marathon, and competed in the Rio 2016 Olympic Marathon. Scott's passion for athletics extends far beyond his own achievements. He has played an important role in nurturing local talent through his work with the Macquarie Hunter Athletics Club, Newcastle Runners Athletics Club, and the Hunter Academy of Sport. He now leads the athletics program at Hunter Sports High School, inspiring young people to strive for their personal best. Scott Westcott's induction into the Hunter Region Sporting Hall of Fame is a fitting tribute to an athlete, teacher, and mentor who continues to give so much to his community.
