Suki Kwon

Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)—I'd like to recognise Suki Kwon, who recently founded Sukimama, a beloved hole-in-the-wall eatery bringing the vibrant flavours of street food to Newcastle. Suki's passion for food began early, inspired by her mother who opened Kim Chee House in the 1980s in Hamilton. As a child, Suki spent countless hours in the kitchen helping her mum make dumplings and learning the importance of hard work, community and care in every dish. Suki has been part of our local hospitality scene for many years, building a reputation for creating welcoming spaces and food made with heart. In the early 2000s she opened Café Momo in Charlestown, which became a favourite among locals for its warmth and quality. While raising her children, Suki continued to share her love of food through catering for community events and family gatherings, always adding her signature creativity and care. Now, with Sukimama, Suki celebrates her lifelong love for good food and her connection to the community. Her menu showcases the creativity, care and authenticity that have defined her career. Suki Kwon's dedication and passion have made her a cherished part of Newcastle's food culture and an inspiring example of local talent and heart.
