Ms JODIE HARRISON (Charlestown—Minister for Women, Minister for Seniors, and Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault)—When voices come together in song, they have the power to uplift, connect and heal, and few groups embody that more beautifully than Under Construction Choir as they celebrate their 18th birthday. What began 18 years ago with just nine members has grown into a vibrant choir of more than 40 people, united by the power of music and community. Over the past 18 years, the choir has performed more than 170 concerts, sharing their message of hope and resilience across our region. Their very first performance was at a homelessness forum in Rutherford in 2008, and most recently they took to the stage at the Newcastle Fringe Festival in March this year. I especially acknowledge Karen Harmon, whose inspiring idea it was to create a choir for people living with mental health challenges. Karen continues to play a vital role as President in the day-to-day running of the choir and in supporting its members. Through music, friendship and inclusion, Under Construction Choir breaks down barriers, builds resilience and creates meaningful community connection. Happy 18th birthday to this remarkable choir, and thank you for the joy and hope you bring to so many.
